Illustration Friday

As my challenge was to create an image from the words ''Together'', she also told me about Illustration Friday which is a site where you can post your work.

We belong together

A friend of mine gave me a challenge which was to create a image based on the work ''Together''. I decided that i wanted to do something quirky and different to my usual work. As jigsaws create a picture and without one piece the whole puzzle doesn't work, I thought it would be a great idea to draw to jigsaw pieces are they do fit together perfectly.

Quick sketch of a jigsaw piece.

The idea i came up with done in coloured pencil. I decided to use Photoshop to make this piece stand out more.

I feel all three of these pieces work, I like how they are quirky and different. The last one stands out more because if the vibrant colours which is what i wanted to achieve.

The Giraffe

During this summer i went to Knowsley Safari Park and Chester Zoo, knowing that I could get some photographs of animals which would give me inspiration to do some more drawings. Whilst in Knowsley I photographed many animals including a giraffe which i felt i could draw and create an interesting piece using water colours.

Image taken in Knowsley

I started by doing a simple pencil outline of the giraffe but keeping the background simple and light.

Simple water colour paints - used for the giraffe.

Simple water colour for the background.

Trying different techniques on Photoshop.

Using the ''Gradient Map Tool'' I was able to create different pieces using simple colours which i felt worked well.

Simplicity is beautiful

For this piece i used the quote ''Simplicity is beautiful'' i wanted to create a drawing which fitted well with the quote. I decided to do a bird cage with the bird flying away, keeping the piece very simple.

I started by sketching a bird cage in pencil -

Then i needed to decide where i would want the bird and the quote

I then thought it would be a good idea to go over the image in pen and make the lines more prominent  then using water colour i could add some different shades and background to the image. But i realised that wasn't keeping the image simple.

The water colour wrecked this piece, so by using Photoshop i had to fix it.

Here i changed the levels so that the image was brighter and there was more definition.

So i decided that i didn't want the coloured background or the bird in the image as the bird didn't work well coloured. so by using the paint brush tool i was able to carefully rub out all colour and leave the background looking white clean.

The quote in the first image was hand written then the second image i used a font from Photoshop which i felt worked well.

I decided that it would work better with the bird flying away from the cage and the font to be the one from Photoshop.

Water colour

One main media which i have always wanted to use is water colour, i have never found the right image or piece of work which would work well with watercolour. while researching various artists i came accross a very interesting piece of work by ''Marion Bolognesi'' who uses water colour to catch the beauty and elegance of the human face, but focusing on the main features. This gave me the inspiration to create a water colour piece focusing on the main facial features.

I decided that both the images which i produced were lacking the vibrant colours  so i decided to use Photoshop to bring out the colour and enhance the various features.

Using the tools in the adjustment box to enhance the colours of my image.

Drawing of Brittany Foster

During this summer one of my best friends mums asked if i would be able to do a portrait of her daughter but using one of her favorite photographs. Having not had much practice in doing portraits i took on the challenge.

Pencil sketch, not finished needs a lot of work!

Finished Piece.

First year of university work - (Final Pieces)

As part of our last projects we had to pick the best of our work to be exhibited in the Byram Arcade, which is a local small shopping center. I decided the pieces in which i would be displaying were from different projects, one project ''Drawing project'' and the other ''Reading and responding''.

Pencil sketch of a skull - Final piece from ''Drawing project''

Pencil sketch of a lion - Second final piece of
the ''Drawing project''. (this images was edited on photoshop to enhance the dark lines)

Water colour, pen, and ink drawing - Final piece for ''Reading and responding''. The text in which is my piece is based upon is Edgar Allan Poe a dream within a dream.

Secon final piece for ''Reading and responding''. Ink, pen and water colour drawing. Again this piece was based upon the poem ''A dream within a dream'' by Edagr Allan Poe.
